Local Support Fuels Fire Department Operations with $5,000 Grant

In a testament to strong community partnership, the Bull Shoals Fire Department Auxiliary recently received a generous $5,000 grant from the Arvest Foundation. Announced in early 2022, these essential funds were earmarked to supplement the Auxiliary’s operating budget, helping the department address numerous critical needs, including the purchase of necessary equipment to maintain safe and effective operations. Fire Chief Brent Mitchell expressed deep gratitude for the support, highlighting the importance of the grant in overcoming ongoing fundraising challenges. This financial backing reinforces the foundation's commitment to supporting organizations that make the Twin Lakes Area a safer place to live, work, and play.

Dedication to Water Safety: Equipping the Fire/Rescue Boat

The Bull Shoals Fire Department goes beyond structure fires, providing crucial emergency services on Bull Shoals Lake. Recognizing the necessity of rapid and reliable water rescue, the City Council authorized the Mayor to apply for a significant grant to aid in replacing the twin outboard engines on the Fire/Rescue Boat. The original engines were deemed obsolete, with repair costs being prohibitive and the outcome uncertain. The new, dependable, and fuel-efficient replacement engines are vital for ensuring the best and only fire and rescue response to citizens and visitors enjoying Bull Shoals Lake, underscoring the department's commitment to safety on both land and water.

A Legacy of Volunteerism and Collaboration in Emergency Response

The Bull Shoals Fire Department consistently demonstrates outstanding collaboration during emergencies, acting as a cornerstone of the regional emergency response network. For instance, during a structure fire on McDonald's Meadow in 2025, the Bull Shoals Fire and Police personnel were joined immediately by neighboring departments, including Fairview, Flippin, and Grover, along with the Marion County OEM and Arkansas State Police. This multi-agency response highlights the effectiveness of the local mutual aid agreements and the spirit of dedicated volunteerism that allows Bull Shoals to manage complex incidents effectively. This collaborative approach ensures that the community always receives the highest level of emergency coverage.

Auxiliary Volunteers Drive Ongoing Support Through Fundraising Efforts

The backbone of continuous equipment upgrades and operational needs for the Bull Shoals Fire Department is its dedicated Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. This auxiliary group tirelessly raises crucial funds and resources for the department. Their fundraising efforts, which often involve community engagement and financial donations, are pivotal in ensuring the volunteer firefighters have the best tools available. The presence of such an active Auxiliary shows the deep, reciprocal support between the city's residents and their first responders, creating a resilient and well-equipped local fire service.
